Pakistan Publishing House, Karachi was founded by Mr. Malik Noorani in 1964. PPH was originally dealing mainly in imported titles and acting as representative for a number of U.K publishers such as Cambridge University Press and Associated Book Publishers. Mr. Noorani decided to start publishing in Urdu in 1967 and hence the imprint of Maktaba e Danyal, Karachi came into being.
The first book to be published under this imprint was "Ujjara Diyaar" by Shahid Ahmad Dehlavi. Maktaba e Danyal is known for having published renowned authors like Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi, Syed Sibte Hassan, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Iftikhar Arif, Fehmida Riaz, Habib Jalib and many others. They have also published the works of authors from India, such as Qurratulain Hyder, Kaifi Azmi, Sajjad Zaheer, Ali Sardar Jafri, Noor Zaheer, Gulzar, Jeelani Bano and Javaid Akhtar. Currently, they are working on a series of translations into Urdu from world Literature as well as Pakistani authors writing in English. Numerous books by Russian writers and Academics have also been translated and published by Maktaba e Danyal.
PERSONAL PROFILE
PPH/Maktaba e Danyal is now headed (since 1986) by Ms. Hoori Noorani, the daughter of its founder. With a background in philology and a passion for literature, she has played a pivotal role in promoting renowned authors and fostering literary translation efforts. Ms. Noorani's dynamic contributions extend beyond publishing, as she is also a trained classical dancer and a skilled translator, reflecting her multifaceted dedication to the arts.
